Baby Goes to the Farm

Adam and I went to New Hampshire today to see the family. We visited Krista and Rosie at the salon, and then went to the house.

Here's us in the greenhouse (which is coming along nicely).

You'll notice that he's practically asleep in this picture (Adam, not Pa). I put him down for a nap back at the house, but he woke up in about 15 minutes. An hour later, though, he fell asleep again. And slept. And slept. After two hours I had to wake him up to head home in time for dinner. I love the napping!

And then he was alert, cheerful and chatty all evening. He stayed up till 8, which means he might (might!) get a nice long sleep tonight. But before that, he sat in his new bumbo, chatted with me, and rode on Mike's shoulders around the living room.

Yes, we were careful! What a nice day we had.

Would You Like a Dipping Sauce With That?

Adam has discovered his fists--that is, he's gained enough control to decide that his fist is going into his mouth and firmly put it there. He's willing to gum on other things, but not especially interested. At first we were worried that he might be teething, since he's also been resisting his food a little bit, but there's no sign of it on his gums. He's been Master of His Fists for at least a week now.

He's also getting better and better at sitting up. His neck control is almost all there--sometimes it gets tired, but he can ride around in the pouch without neck support pretty easily. And he can sit up with just some support at the hips, from either us or the boppy.

Notice, above, his Baby Legs. These are like legwarmers--they cover his legs over his onesie, instead of pants, but they don't need to be removed for a diaper change. Don't let the naysayers tell you that they're silly--they're adorable.
And finally, at the request of Aunt Polly, more pictures of Marsha. She comes down a lot to play with Adam, keep me company, and help me out. He loves to gnaw/drool on her sleeve. Her intense camera-shyness abates somewhat when Adam's in the frame, so we can once again prove her existence to the skeptical.

More backdating to keep y'all up to speed!

Adam has taken up smiling a lot of late. Here he is grinning with Daddy.

Here he is in his cool-guy outfit from Mike's friend Yanna. They are without a doubt the most cool-kid outfit he owns.

We have a pretty easy time getting a smile out of him, and other people can often find one if they look. He'll often give a shy smile, grinning and pushing his face into the neck of whoever's holding him. The funny part is when it's someone else holding him and he gets all shy when he's smiling at me!

Groovin' with Nana

Groovin' with Grandma is more alliterative, but it's too close to Gramma, which is someone else's name. And he'll groove with her at a later date--don't worry, Gramma, we'll see you soon!

Adam's big thing is chewing his fist over your shoulder. Nana's convinced that he's teething--I'm more skeptical. But he had a nice day playing with her. I even let him take a nap on her lap--well, let her let him have the nap. Because who can resist him asleep?

Yeah, I thought so. No one. After Mom (my mom) went home, I put Adam in his crib for a nap, and I laid down to rest. He woke up pretty soon, but I brought him all swaddled up into bed with me and he slept for a total of two hours. Which was AWESOME for me. As the poet says, "There is no child so lovely that his mother does not delight to see him asleep." Or something similar thereto.

I'm a Very Busy Bunny

Today Adam had lunch with Daddy!

Actually, Adam slept through lunch with Dad. But really, that made for a great lunch experience for Mike and me. At the Kinsale. With a really fabulous chocolate dessert thingy.

Then we walked Mike back to his office. We didn't go in, but we got a picture anyway, for posterity.

Adam and I walked across the park to Arlington Street, which was lovely--I was so glad to get the weather. Then we went with Sheila to the library (why didn't we get a photo of you, Sheila?!?). But we did get a photo of us in front of the library.

And, finally, my beloved communting photo. Because what else am I supposed to do except play with the camera on the train?

I did not get any photos of him screaming his head off on the way home as I scrambled to make some food before I even got my coat off! Probably for the best--let's preserve our saintly illusions.

Adam's Day Out

Herein we document a day in the life of Adam "The Toes" Tomasulo. First, a trip to the Italian market for cold cuts. The weather was gorgeous, so we walked there with Auntie Marsha.

Then we went to Sweet Sue's cafe in Arlington, where we had a little nosh and met up with Keiran, who is almost Adam's age, and his mom.

Then the nice lady at the front desk at the Arlington Public Library took a photo for us. It's a gorgeous building. Adam was awake in the Bjorn the whole time, and barely made a peep! He's such a mellow baby, and I'm so lucky.

Finally, home to see Daddy!

It was a busy day, and I'm sure he'll be exhausted, but right now he wants to play with his rattle, darn it! As for me, a gorgeous day like this just proves to me how much fun we're going to have when the weather improves for good. Hooray!

New Noises

First, because he's smiling and wearing a monkey.

Mike spent the evening trying to teach Adam a new noise--to turn "hoo" into "moo." Not much progress yet--he's still just into vowels--but you have to keep moving forward, you know?

My menfolk give me the pop-eye.

Adam At Home

In addition to spending time out on the town, Adam is being suitably adorable at home. Yesterday, he took his first (albeit brief) nap in his crib. Today he's had two so far--one for 45 minutes, one for just over an hour. I got a load of laundry in, and I read a few chapters of a very good book. I'm relieved--I've been worried that he'd never want to nap in the crib.

Here, we see my view of him most of the time. I held the camera over my shoulder for this one.

Why does his hair look like implants?

And here, my methods of entertaining myself when he's in my lap. Behold, pharaoh boy!

Adam In The World

We have had a very, very busy few days! Friday we tried the library 0-36 months singalong time. Sadly, he's really too young--it's very much about getting up and jumping around, so he couldn't even follow what was going on. Still, we met some people and had a nice time.

This weekend, the Tomasulos came to visit, so Adam spent a lot of time with his Auntie Steph and his Grandma and Gramps. On Sunday we went out to brunch. Adam asked for a mimosa, but I think he's a little too young.

He is an absolute angel, though--wide awake and alert, looking around at all of us from his bucket seat, quiet as a mouse.

On Monday, we went downtown and had lunch with some of my friends from work. It's amazing how many people you can meet just sitting in the lobby, even though, with a 20 story building, you'd think the odds of meeting the few people I knew would be against us.

He had a little more of a rough time, fussing a little when I left him in his seat too long. I think he wanted a nap, but it was too exciting to sleep--though he did doze off in the end. Adam met Lauren, Sheila, and Elizabeth, and he and Tracy got caught up. I fed him at the table in the restaurant, which went really well.

Then! We went to the Boston Public Library. I wish I'd had Sheila take a photo of the two of us in front of the building, especially because the weather was so nice. But I didn't think of it (or maybe I thought it would be too corny). Still, we did get him in the B section.

And then we took the T home. He's already a seasoned commuter, staring bored into the distance as things go on around him.

He's a man about town!
