This weekend, we went to the beach to say our goodbyes to Adam's great-aunt, Sue Vassilakos Abbott.

Susan Vassilakos Abbott

Sue passed away in September; on her birthday, we scattered her ashes in the ocean. I feel so grateful that, in spite of the huge distances between us, she was able to see Adam, watch him eat and play, over the computer. They got to meet that way, and I'm really glad.

It was a lovely day at the beach, though the water was cold. It's one big ocean, though, at Hampton and North Carolina and Florida.

Adam wore his hat for the occasion.

Afterward we had seafood nearby. Everyone spent a lot of time in this area as kids, so there was a lot of good remembering. It was nice to be able to see Dawn and Jesse.

Also--and this is very important--Adam likes scallops.

We miss you, Sue. We love you.
