Adam In the Closet

So we spent a long time playing this game today: Adam goes in the hall closet and closes the door.  I knock, then run and hide before he comes out.  There aren't that many places to hide, but he tends to run right for whichever one he thinks is most likely.  We played this for at least 20 minutes, maybe more like 30.  Enjoy.

Swim Class

You've heard the buzz; now see the photographic evidence!

After this, we tied the noodle around him, added a second, and he kicked around on his own.  He even swam toward me!  Now we just have to get his arms involved....

Photos by Liala--without  her glasses, and remarkably well-composed!

Surprise Cupcakes!

In honor of Mike's birthday, we made cupcakes.

The egg situation actually went better than I expected; there was only one casualty, unless you count the cutting board that had to be de-egged.

Oh, and unless you count damage done by running his eggy hands through his hair right after.  Though that's good for healthy hair, right?

He liked the way his voice echoed in the bowl.  Sanitary?  No.  Charming?  Oh, yeah.

Happy Birthday, Daddy!

Sorry, No Photos

But tonight, Adam helped me make dinner.  It was really great--he wanted to help me cook, so we pulled up his stool.  With a butterknife, he helped me slice the polenta into rounds to cook in the pan (little pancakes!).  Then he did all the work on making green beans--he poured them from the bag into the Tupperware, he poured a little water in, put the lid on, put it in the microwave, closed the door, and pressed the buttons.  When it finished, he took the container out, shook it up, put it back in, set the timer again.  And at the end, he ate two bowls of green beans.  It's like I've died and gone to Mommy Heaven.

Adam's actually been eating really well this week, since we took him to the doctor on Friday and figured out that his slight but persistent cough was pneumonia.  He's been on antibiotics since then, and he's already feeling a million times better--much less coughing and nose running, much better eating.  He ate meat loaf, polenta, green beans, and yogurt with honey for dinner tonight.

I'm sorry he spent so long sick--he's just always so cheerful that it's hard to tell.  But he's doing great, and had a lot of fun this weekend visiting with Grandma and Gramps.  Tomorrow it's back to school!

Another video for Auntie Steph. Adam has the Very Hungry Caterpillar pretty much down.

A Successful Christmas Gift

Steph and Chris gave us a Flip video camera for Christmas in order to elicit more Adam videos.  As a little thank you, here's a conversation we had over dessert.

Thanks for the camera, guys!

Not Mommy, Just Daddy!

Adam goes back and forth between Mommy and Daddy preferences from hour to hour.  Everybody gets the loving around  here.  Last night Daddy was reading Adam's bedtime story and it was so cute I had to catch it.

Draw An Adventure!

We've been drawing on a whiteboard for fun today.  Adam asked me to draw an adventure.  I'm not quite sure what he meant; I drew a playground and a bear.  But here are some of the real adventures we've had in the past few days.

First, Adam helped me buy Cheerios.  He has been firmly against sitting in the cart at the grocery store for a few weeks now, so it's a bit more of a juggling act, but at least I have a very helpful assistant.

Who sometimes ends up heading off in the wrong direction...

...but darn it, gets the job done.

Then his new obsession--"Go to the mall and ride on the merry-go-round!"  We've only done this a couple of times, but it was very popular every time.

How About You, You, You?

We went to the Stone Zoo for the first time this weekend.  Adam seemed much more interested in the path we walked on and the buildings we walked through, but he's been talking about the animals for days and begging to go back.  If you ask what he saw, he'll say he saw bears...

...and llama llama red pajama...

...(he doesn't mention the jaguar, but I like this photo)...

...and the fans--one was off and two were on--(if prompted, he'd remember that there were birds)...

...and Rudolph.... an owl (that I didn't get pictures of) that was cleaning his foot.

He loved, loved, loved the zoo.

Who Could Ever Imagine Such a Christmas?

We had Smith Farm Christmas yesterday, and Adam had so much fun.  He got to hand out the presents to everyone, and he got even more Curious George books!

He got a quilt with musical notes and pictures of horns and violins.

And, the piece de resistance, a real live working windmill!
