Bee-Bim Bop!

One of our favorite books around here is Bee-Bim Bop!, by Linda Sue Park.  It's a great rhyming picture book about a little girl helping her mom make dinner--and she's "hungry in a hurry for some bee-bim bop!" 

There's a recipe for bee-bim bop (or bi bim bab, or whatever transliteration you prefer from the Korean).  This has been one of Mike's favorite Korean dishes for a while, so he decided he wanted to try it at home. 

Look at this amazing spread.  I'm sorry I didn't get a picture before we each put our plate together--rice, carrots, spinach, sprouts, marinated meat, fried eggs.  Put them all in your bowl, and "mix it, mix like crazy, time for bee-bim bop!"

It was amazingly delicious.

And then, a couple of weeks later, we went to a Korean restaurant near our house and I ordered bi bim bap.  It was nowhere near as good as Mike's--surprisingly bland, without the variety of flavor and texture that made the picture book recipe so good.

But Adam really liked it, which leads to our second set of pictures:

Egg-cellent!

We went to Grandma and Gramps' house for Easter!  We did a lot of fun stuff, especially playing with the record player, which was a huge hit.  And on Sunday, we dyed Easter eggs.

I'm not mishearing this, I'm just speaking a different language.

Farm Sleepover

Since it's school vacation and day care is closed this week, Adam spent Monday and Tuesday at the farm.  This was apparently a fabulous experience.

Kid Logic...Kind Of

We were watching the episode of Curious George where George learns about  how a water pump works.  As they're explaining in the yard, George demonstrates that he understands by sucking some water up with a straw and spitting it out.  Adam asked for a drink of water and, NOT THINKING, I assumed he was thirsty.

Nope.  He sucked up the water and spit it out, all over the couch.  We had a little conversation about things you do in the sink and outdoors, versus things you do on the couch in the living room.

Whee!

Sick Day

Yesterday's under the weather has become today's throwing up and sleeping on the couch.

Loves That Frog

Adam loves his frog humidifier.  Loves it a lot.  Like, a lot.

Sometimes he looks around his room and says, "I have a bed, and I have my friends, and I have a fan, and I have a bureau, and I have an owl, and I have a night light, and I have a frog humidifier."  And you can tell by the way he says it that life is good.

(Note: sorry, I got my videos mixed up yesterday!  Both posts make a lot more sense now.)

Bluebird Song

Adam started singing, "I'm a little birdie, nice and blue," to the tune of I'm a Little Teapot.  I'm not sure if he made this up, or heard it somewhere, or what, but now he asks all the time about "What is a bird nice and blue?"

Mother and Child

I never seem to get a photo of me and Adam, so we had a little photo session today.  It's not the best photo of me, but it's a pretty good one of us together.

We got a bunch of other stuff today, too; stay tuned!

Chalk!

The street sweepers came by today, leaving prime chalk-playing real estate.  While I was out for a little while, Marsha took a ton of photos.  Unfortunately, since they're all so cute, I don't really have any choice but to post them all.

Morning Glories

Adam has a new raincoat, so the weather could (if you try really hard) be seen as  perfect.

Before we went outside, though, we played some Legos.

Kid Logic

Getting out of the car after school today:

"Mama, I want to play with chalk."

"We can't do that right now.  It's raining, and we can't play chalk in the rain."

Thoughtful pause.

"Mama, I want to go in the house and find the switch to turn off the rain, and then we can play with chalk."
