Another Beach Round Up

Since we took this photo:

...Adam wants to take a picture of his fingers and toes every time he gets wrinkly.  It was a hard picture to get, though, so we're going to discourage that.

And our brave boy is now willing to go down the slide with only a little encouragement and hand-holding.

This weekend we brought Brenda and Jason to the pond, too!  Which was lucky, because Adam suddenly decided he was a runner, and desperately needed to be chased.

I love love love that pond.  Adam and I are thinking of living there forever.

Insanely Fun Day!

We went all over town.  We went to the library, got on the T, picked up some lunch in Chinatown, then got together with Sheila for an ice cream picnic.  Adam had chocolate.

Then Adam and Sheila went on the merry-go-round on the Common.  Sheila had to go catch a train, but Adam and I splashed in the frog pond for almost an hour. 

Of course, I didn't bring a camera.  That would have made sense!  But thanks to the kindness of strangers--a girl on a bench took this photo and emailed it to me right away.

I don't know about Adam, but I'm going to sleep like a baby tonight!

Chihuly!

At the Dale Chilhuly exhibit at the MFA.  

Unrelated: Mike and I were discussing how it was unthinkable that a working musician today wouldn't have a website, MySpace page, or something.  "Everyone has a web presence.  Adam has a web presence!"

Which was followed by a full 10 minutes, complete with tears, of trying to convince Adam that there were not, in fact, any presents for him to open anywhere in the house. 

Big Day Downtown

Yesterday was so fun, full of Adam's favorites.  First, we took the train into the City of Boston (which is never referred to as just Boston, but always the City of Boston, thank you very much).  We took the orange line to the blue line (these are important details if you're discussing this with Adam) to the Aquarium. 

We watched the penguins, and we pressed the buttons on the machine, "and then the penguins said everything!"  We learned all about their noises.  Then we saw the big whale skeleton that was hanging from the ceiling.  And we went to the petting tank and Adam touched a starfish.  We also went to the shark and ray petting tank, but Adam's arms weren't quite long enough to touch any of the rays that came to visit our part of the tank.

After that, we took a pedicab from the Aquarium to Mike's work and we had lunch with Daddy "at the City of Boston.  I ate grilled cheese." 

Then, of course, we got to take another train home.  For the most ridiculously hot day I can remember--maybe the hottest of Adam's life so far--we managed to stay cool and get out to see the sights.  I'm pretty proud of us.

A little postscript from this morning, too.  I knocked on Adam's door this morning, and instead of his usual "Come in!" I heard him scurrying to hide under his pillow.  That means it's not time to get up yet, so I went back into my room and listened to the monitor for when he was ready for me to get him up.  What I heard was Adam reenacting his favorite scene from Toy Story, over and over again.  I definitely counted seven times, after I noticed and before I stopped counting. 

"Hey, who's got my hat?"
"I'm Woody.  Howdy howdy howdy!"

Friday's Lunch and Tonight's Dinner

Adam and I had lunch at Zing Pizza in Porter Square on Friday.  It was delightful, and Adam loved it.

Note that Buzz and Piggie (aka Hamm) are having lunch with Adam.

But tonight's conversation at dinner takes the cake. Mike and I are talking about rearranging the living room furniture and where to put some things. 

Adam: What are you talking about?
Me: Cleaning.
Adam: What cleaning are you talking about?
Me: you can tell he's more of a "what" kid than a "why" kid.
Adam: What why kid?  [Noticing that this is funny, Adam starts laughing.  Then, as though to explain his laughter...] You can't cook Cheerios!  That's funny!

I have NO IDEA what he was talking about.  No idea when the subject changed from "what why kid" to cooking Cheerios.  But I'm still laughing about this one--he's just a complete nut.

Various Days at the Beach

We've spent enough time at the pond in the past week that I have a sunburn.  It's not easy to give me a sunburn--you need two or three hours in direct sun with inexpertly applied sunblock.  We just got lucky, I guess.  Fortunately, Adam gets much more sunblock than I do--plus he wears a t-shirt in the water.  So he's fine.

These photos are from a couple of different trips to the beach--one with Marsha, one with just the two of us. 

Every trip to the pond has to start with a picnic, even if it's hours till lunchtime.  Luckily, all you need for a picnic is hummus and veggies to dip in it.  Pita chips are nice, too.

On Wednesday, or neighbor, A, was there, and he and Adam built sand castles together.  A is five years old, so he's out of Adam's league in some ways, but he's a good kid and we had fun.

Of course, I don't have any pictures of us swimming, because I don't have a waterproof camera.  And we spent most of the time swimming.  This kid does not like leaving the water.  It was a lot of fun.  Then, miracle of miracles, he wanted to hide in his towel for a bit while Marsha and I sat in the sun.

Once we were dry and dressed, we went up to the snack bar for an ice cream sandwich--which I fear has now become a standard element of a pond visit.  It's a useful tool for getting him out of the water, though--the only one that worked.

And finally, running in circles around Mama time!  

 

Not a lot of action pictures, I'm afraid--mostly portraits.  I was having too much fun for documentary photography.  But gosh it's nice to go to the pond!  I might never leave Medford, just because of this.
